How We Read Legality, Countries, and Books.

This is the rulebook behind the snapshot cards — not a score engine. We compare public paper and resident texture. We do not take bets. If a Commission table moved tomorrow, the live table wins.

Country labels

Four words. No rankings.

Status lives in the country hero. Labels are editorial as of 14 October 2026, not a court order and not a promise the law stayed still.

Licensed/Regulated

Licensed/Regulated

Licensed/Regulated
Adults can use a currently licensed sportsbook in that place, on a public register or a regulator-adjacent list we opened. The licence is local — not continental. Senegal sits here as a LONASE-centred market, not as a private multi-book register.

Restricted/Grey

Restricted/Grey

Restricted/Grey
A lawful product may exist, but private books are not the story — a ban-in-force, or a tourist / monopoly framing we will not dress as a shop directory.

Illegal

Illegal

Illegal
Private resident sports betting looks prohibited, or we found no licensing route we will point a punter at. Our dated reading. A tourist casino or a state lottery is not a resident sportsbook.

Not confirmed — check the regulator
We could not confirm a ban or a licensing route from a primary legal source. Check the regulator before you play.

Countries

Place first. Brand second.

  • We write like a resident of that country — payments, sports, and the board that actually issues paper.
  • This map is thirteen resident guides, plus Illegal stubs, plus coming-soon for the rest. A missing country is a gap, not a fake deep page.
  • Featured home tiles are doors into the map, not a ranking of “best countries to bet.”

Legality

A dated reading of public paper.

  • We ask: is there a current licence a resident can use, and who issues it? National commission, provincial stack, state office, monopoly, or none.
  • Statutes, judgments, and regulator lists beat operator footers. “Licensed and regulated” with no noun is perfume.
  • When the letterhead is moving — Kenya’s BCLB to GRA, Nigeria after November 2024, Mozambique inspectorate names — we say so and we keep the language soft.

Operators

A name we can pin. Or a gap.

  • An operator page exists only when we can match a trading name to a public register, a regulator-adjacent list, or a group market page we will stand behind. We do not invent licences.
  • A Lagos listing is a Lagos fact. A Hollywoodbets shop in Durban does not license Nairobi. A Betway logo is not an Africa-wide stamp.
  • No minted testimonials. We would rather leave Zimbabwe without a pin than invent one.

What we refuse

Comparison is a smaller job than it looks.

  • No live odds, no “fastest payout” rankings, no current bonus rates. Those rot and they turn a guide into a sales floor.
  • No numeric star scores. A licence row is a fact; a 9.4 is a costume.
  • No paid placement in a ranking we do not even publish.
  • No US-state template with the word Africa swapped in.
  • This is not legal advice, not tax advice, and not a licence. Check the official register the morning you care.
