- Read official Ethiopian Lottery Service notices when a verified URL exists.

What residents need to know after the nationwide licence revocations: there is currently no legal private sportsbook path to deposit into — and grey/offshore apps are not a substitute for a local licence.

Not applicable — no licensed private sportsbook path
Football talk is still Saturday language in Addis and the regional cities. What changed is the legal pipe: after late-2025 enforcement, residents should treat sports-betting apps and agent shops that still solicit deposits as unlicensed / illegal until the Ethiopian Lottery Service says otherwise. This page exists so people do not confuse “the app still loads” with “the licence is live.”
Snapshot dated 14 October 2026: sports betting for Ethiopian residents is not in a normal licensed competitive market. In December 2025, Ethiopian Lottery Service actions culminated in a nationwide revocation of sports-betting licences (industry reporting: suspension of dozens of firms, then a blanket revocation / shutdown order covering online, retail, agents, and related payment facilitation). Ethiopian Lottery Service public messaging in 2026 has reiterated that no sports-betting organisation currently holds a legal licence. National lottery / Ethiopian Lottery Service lottery products are a separate vertical. Label: Not confirmed — check the regulator — this Full guide explains limits; it does not pretend a green licensed market.

State lottery / betting oversight. Do not invent licence numbers.
None. We will not publish a licensed shortlist for Ethiopia while the Ethiopian Lottery Service states that no sports-betting organisation holds a legal licence. No affiliate CTAs. No “best books in Ethiopia.” If/when the Ethiopian Lottery Service reopens a transparent licensing framework and publishes a register, this section can be revisited — until then it stays empty on purpose.
English football dominates conversation. CAF and World Cup qualifiers matter. Local league interest exists but television and data bundles shape what people actually price. Treat sports interest as culture, not as permission to bet.
Not applicable — we do not list books or coach deposit paths here. Historical rails (Telebirr, CBE Birr, bank transfer, agent cash-in) are noted only so the guide can say: payment convenience is not legality. After the revocation, facilitating deposits into banned operators can carry separate risk.
If an app still accepts birr, that is not a licence and it is not a reason to deposit. Use the house responsible-gambling page for generic help framing. We will not invent an Ethiopian helpline number.
For private sportsbooks: treat the market as closed / unlicensed based on Ethiopian Lottery Service messaging after the December 2025 revocations. Lottery products under the Ethiopian Lottery Service are different.
Court process is not a restored national licence register.
Not while there is no public local licence path. Not confirmed — check the regulator means education first.
Accepting money is not a licence. Prefer official Ethiopian Lottery Service guidance over app-store screenshots.
